Physical Therapy Services
Traditional Physical Therapy
Our clinic provides an initial physical therapy evaluation for every patient in our care. Following the initial evaluation, if treatment is indicated, a treatment plan is designed and carried out. This includes treatment for acute, chronic, and post-surgical conditions.
We can provide treatment using a number of various modalities and manual therapy techniques. We offer traditional adjunctive treatments such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and iontophoresis/phonophoresis. We also use exercise-based treatment and core strengthening programs with stretching protocols to improve flexibility and decrease soreness.
Extremity Programs
Peak also incorporates traditional physical therapy into a patient's treatment plan. Our facility caters to a variety of orthopedic conditions, not only for the spine, but for the upper and lower extremities as well. Our patient population includes pre and post-surgical conditions as well as non-surgical injuries for the shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, ankles, and feet. We combine therapeutic exercise, modalities, and manual therapy techniques into our physical therapy program, giving the patient an opportunity to improve their strength, stability, and flexibility; as well as promote healing in the injured areas.
Our therapeutic exercise programs include cardiovascular and endurance training using treadmills, stationary bikes, upper extremity bikes, and elliptical machines. We include strength and resistance training with ancillary MedX equipment, free weights, and therabands. Each patient also receives a home exercise program designed specifically for his or her physical condition.
Modalities and Manual Therapy
Modalities are another physical therapy treatment option for injuries at Peak. We include ultrasound, electrical stimulation, traction, thermal and ice packs into a patient's treatment plan, in order to facilitate the healing process for an injured area.
Another way we can promote healing in tissues is with manual therapy. This technique includes soft tissue work, joint mobilizations and muscle energy techniques. Using this hands-on approach increases flexibility and restores muscle mobility and function.
MedX Spine Rehabilitation
Peak Rehabilitation's MedX program is specifically designed for spine pain disorders. It is far different than other programs that might be offered at your local Wal-Mart or even in other clinics. Our program stands alone not only because of our many years of experience, but also because of our specific protocols, which were designed by the exceptional physicians that founded our company.
MedX is a manufacturer of medically based spine and exercise machines. In our opinion, these machines are the very best machines in the world to use for rehabilitation because of the construction and design to maximize isolation of the specific body part being trained.
With any one of the four spine machines we are able to isolate and test joint systems to find range of motion, strength and endurance deficiencies. Our MedX program often succeeds even when other conservative physical therapy programs have failed.
Each of these testing machines for the neck and back produce objective, accurate,
and comprehensive reports for doctors, patients, insurance companies
and attorneys. Our program enables us to provide each patient and
the referring physician with a detailed analysis of problems and progress,
treatment recommendations and rationale. This allows us to communicate
with the referring physician to ensure a good relationship and an
exceptional understanding of our patients' condition.

How do the MedX Spine Machines work?
Weakness in the muscles surrounding the spine (spinal extensors) is one of the most significant factors in neck and low back pain. Spinal extensors are the "weak link" in the musculoskeletal system because they are constantly over-powered by the larger, stronger surrounding musculature.
The weak spinal extensors must be isolated for effective and proper strengthening. No other system of rehabilitation has the capability to isolate these muscles groups in the manner in which MedX spinal testing technology can. Once these tissues have been strengthened, they will contribute at a normal ratio, which can be maintained by an independent exercise program that can be designed for your home or at the gym.
In addition, MedX employs isometric testing techniques — muscular contraction against a resistance in which the length of the muscle remains the same — rather than the widely used isokinetic method — muscular contraction in which tension is developed by the muscle while shortening at a constant speed.
Years of study and evaluation have proven isometric testing superior. In fact, it is the most effective and safest way to measure peak muscle torque.
We also utilize MedX technology to provide the most specific resistance-based
exercise program for rehabilitation of neck and back injuries of all
types. Once a spine region has been tested, rehabilitation begins
with isokinetic methods to dynamically establish stabilization while
in isolation.
